As we reflect on 2025, one theme stands out above all others:

…Relationships matter!

Through hundreds of conversations in 2025 with clients, partners, and industry peers across our service engagements, conference sessions, panels, and executive roundtables, we had the opportunity to listen closely to, and engage on the realities facing treasury, finance, and business leaders today.

What we observed and experienced was not just rapid change in markets, geopolitics, technology, and financial strategy, but a growing recognition that strong relationships, effective leadership, and aligned teams are essential to navigating complexity and delivering results. This 2025 Annual Letter shares what we learned, what we’re grateful for, and how those insights are shaping the year ahead.

A Year of Insight, Partnership, and Progress

In 2025, Treasury Sources Group had the privilege of working closely with a growing and diverse group of clients, partners, and industry peers. First and foremost, thank you to our long-standing clients, our many new clients who joined us in 2025, and our partners who collaborated with us throughout the year. Your trust, openness, and willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue made this another very successful and rewarding year for Treasury Sources Group.

We write this letter with a focus on what we learned out in the field this past year and what to think about and act upon now that we are in 2026. A key theme we have seen in 2025, and we believe will continue in 2026 is that by having a strong conviction that relationships matter well beyond the numbers, and when managed intentionally, they ultimately improve the numbers. Time and again, we saw that organizations with strong internal alignment, trusted external partnerships, and leaders who invest in relationship effectiveness make better decisions, execute more consistently, and perform more resiliently under pressure. In today’s environment, relationship strength is not a “soft” advantage, it is a measurable driver of financial outcomes.

What follows reflects the collective insights drawn from engagement we have had with finance and business leaders across industries and geographies around the globe, and the consistent themes that emerged again and again.

We have broken this list into “finance and treasury” trends and “leadership, people & relationship” trends. Both of these lists of what we are calling the top “10” combine the finance elements with the importance of people and relationships.

  1. Treasury Is Becoming Even More of a Strategic Integrator
    Treasury is increasingly expected to connect finance, payments, risk, operations, technology, and leadership, and not operate in silos.

  2. Data Without Action Has No Value
    Organizations are moving beyond dashboards toward insight that directly informs decisions and execution.

  3. AI Is Entering Practical, Governed Use
    The AI conversation has shifted from experimentation to disciplined application, governance, and measurable outcomes.

  4. Automation Requires Discipline
    Automation in treasury, FX, payments, analytics and even “bookkeeping” only works when paired with strong policies, controls, and oversight.

  5. Liquidity Planning Must Be Dynamic and Scenario-Based
    Static forecasts are giving way to continuous, scenario-driven planning.

  6. Payments Innovation Is Outpacing Internal Readiness
    Real-time payments, embedded finance, and new payment rails are moving faster than many internal processes and controls.

  7. Risk, Fraud, and Compliance Are Converging
    These functions can no longer be managed independently and require coordinated strategies, with training and prevention playing a critical role in controlling financial crime and fraud.

  8. Back-Office Finance Matters More Than Ever
    Companies increasingly recognize the importance of strong bookkeeping, operational governance, and a trusted financial strategy partner.

  9. Understanding the Supply Chain Is a Financial Imperative
    Treasury, procurement and finance teams are being pulled deeper into supply chain visibility, risk, and funding decisions.

  10. Alternative Funding Sources Are Becoming Mainstream
    Beyond traditional bank credit, organizations are actively exploring new funding structures and partners.

  1. Leadership Effectiveness Is a Competitive Advantage
    Technical expertise alone is no longer sufficient; organizations that invest in leadership capability outperform those that do not.

  2. The Right People in the Right Seats Matters
    Organizations are re-examining roles &  responsibilities more seriously.

  3. Accountability Is Being Redefined
    Clear ownership and follow-through matter more than consensus.

  4. Fewer Goals, Executed Well, Drive Better Results
    Trends leaning toward fewer, measurable goals, not dozens of competing priorities.

  5. Teams Must Work Across Functions, Not Just Within Them
    Silos continue to be a major barrier to execution; they need to be broken down.

  6. Professional Relationships Enable Speed and Trust
    Strong relationships consistently accelerate problem-solving and decision-making.

  7. Communication Is a Learned Skill
    Leaders are recognizing the need for intentional development in listening, clarity, and influence.

  8. Training and Workforce Development Are No Longer Optional
    Continuous learning is now essential to organizational resilience, and now measurable “on-line” interactive training can be combined extremely effectively with IRL (In Real Life) face-to-face coaching and training.

  9. Trust Is Built Through Consistency, Not Titles
    Credibility is earned through behavior, not hierarchy.

  10. Culture Shows Up in Execution
    How people work together directly impacts financial outcomes.
